What is BSPB?
The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) is Bulgaria’s first and largest non-governmental organization dedicated to biodiversity conservation in the modern era. BSPB works for nature, defending its right to exit. BSPB works for people, protecting everyone’s common interest and right to a preserved natural heritage and a healthy environment. |
Our Mission
BSPB works for the conservation of wild birds, their habitats, those places, which are crucial to their survival, and the whole of biodiversity. We advocate for sustainable use of natural resources in order to conserve nature and, ultimately, to benefit people. |
Our Role in Global Conservation
BSPB has contributed to a number of international projects in cooperation with partners from more than 20 other countries, including: Great Britain, Switzerland, Norway, Netherlands, Germany, the United States, Greece, Turkey, Hungary, Romania, Macedonia, Latvia and others. BSPB’s leading role in international conservation led BirdLife International to invite us to be its partner in Bulgaria, the second Eastern European nation, after Hungary, to host a BirdLife International partner. more |

New web-tool shows critical migratory waterbird sites need urgent protection [2010-06-22 18:04:04]
A new website launched on 14th June by Wetlands International, BirdLife International and the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) reveals major gaps in the protection of many critical sites used by migratory waterbirds across Africa the Middle East, Europe and Central Asia. A staggering one-third of the critical sites (representing over 1,000 individual sites within the network) are entirely unprotected, putting the future of many migratory waterbirds at risk.
The new ‘Critical Site Network (CSN)’ Tool provides comprehensive information on 294 waterbird species from 3,020 sites. It is designed to make information easily available on the most important sites for migratory waterbirds, both at the national and international level.
