How are the activities of the BSPB funded?

Apart from giving their vote for the conservation of Bulgarian nature, our members and supporters contribute financially too – with their annual membership fee and with donations to particular causes and activities of the organization.


For all the generous support, the BSPB needs additional funding in order to put its nature conservation strategy into action. For that we mostly depend on project funding by private foundations and by programmes of the European Union. The BSPB does not receive direct funding from the state. In the last five years the LIFE+ Programme of the EU has been the main source of funding for the projects of the organization.

The main challenge for the BSPB as a civil society organization is to find ways for sustainable funding of our main activity outside the project-funding framework.

We ensure that we expend the funding we receive according to the donor’s requirements in adherence to the Bulgarian legislation.


The BSPB is a membership public benefit organization. The annual financial report of the organization is audited by an independent auditor who attests if the National Financial Reporting Standards for small and medium-sized enterprises were adhered to.


The annual financial report of the BSPB is submitted to the central register of non profit objectives in the public benefit corporations at the Ministry of Justice.


The Board of Directors of the BSPB presents the annual financial report at the annual general assembly of the members where it is approved.


The BSPB abides by the standards for good management of civil society organizations.
