BSPB helps for the development of touristic brands in Albania

On 4th of December, a workshop for development of touristic brands for the Key Biodiversity Areas (KBA) along the Adriatic coast of Albania (Narta, Karaburun and Butrinti) was held in Vlora in the frame of the CEPF project “Land of Eagles and Castles: Pilot Sustainable Tourism Model for the Albanian Adriatic Coastline”. The event was organized by the Association for Protection and Preservation of the Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA), All Channels Communication Group and the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) / BirdLife Bulgaria.

The workshop was targeting local stakeholders from the three KBAs, representatives of local administrative bodies (incl. National Parks), and local business representatives – hotel and guesthouse owners, small touristic services owners, and a total of 30 participants attended the event. Earlier this year, some of the participants had the chance to visit Bulgaria and see different forms of nature-friendly business, which experience was an important stepping-stone for the current event.

During the workshop, the main concept and background for the brand was presented, together with general benefits for the local communities. All attendees took active participation in the decision making and discussion about the current and desired situations, the unique elements and preliminary frames of the touristic brands for each KBA. The brands are expected to be ready and operational for the touristic season 2016, and aim to be a key tool for the promotion and development of sustainable eco-friendly tourism in Narta, Karaburun and Butrinti.
