Protected area Patronka

Anemone pavonina is protected species

"Patronka" includes one of the most beautiful and inaccessible parts of the Arda river gorge, where the riverbank is very steep, and is covered by xerophitic oak forest and bushes, scattered rocks and screes. It was proposed by BSPB and promulgated in 1995. Eleven plant species from the Red Data Book of Bulgaria are found here - Rhodope Haberlea (Haberlea rhodopensis), Steffanophia (Steffanophia daucoides). Colorful protected species is Anemone pavonina. The amphibians and reptiles include the Common Toad (Bufo bufo), Common Wall Lizard (Podarcis muralis) and the Nose-horned Viper (Vipera ammodytes). The inaccessible cliff complexes offer suitable breeding sites for the Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus), Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus), Black Stork (Ciconia nigra). Otter (Lutra lutra) and Wild cat (Felis silvestris) also inhabit the area
