The BSPB were invited to be a full partner of BirdLife International. Thus Bulgaria became the second Eastern European country to be included fully in the oldest and most wide-spread global nature conservation association – with over 2.7 million members and over 10 million supporters.
The first popular series about birds
The first book from the popular series of the BSPB was published: Getting to Know the Birds around Us. It was followed by some of the most practical manuals for nature and bird conservation, written in a popular, accessible language. The series includes Man-made Nests and Bird Feeders – a valuable practical guide on wild bird care, as well as Where to Watch Birds in Bulgaria – the first Bulgarian ornithological book in a foreign language, an important factor for the popularizing of birdwatching in Bulgaria and putting the country on the map of nature-oriented tourism.
