Due to low water levels in Srebarna Reserve the Dalmatian pelicans became easy prey for land predators. The BSPB was quick to propose a plan for fencing off the colony; the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Water realized the plan and the colony of the pelicans was saved from disaster. Similar fences were built along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast too, helping for the restoration of the only colony of glossy ibis in the country.
Action for the conservation of the Egyptian vulture
A BSPB team fortified an unstable Egyptian vulture nest on Strandzha Mountain and prevented it from falling. Along with the supplementary feeding operations that started in previous years this marks the beginning of the systematic efforts for the conservation of this endangered species in Bulgaria.
