The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) presents the exhibition “LIFE for the Birds of Bulgaria”, which can be seen from April 29 to May 13 in the Open Air Gallery – National Palace of Culture, Cabana Cinema in Sofia. The exhibition is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the LIFE programme and to some of the most emblematic and rare species of birds and habitats in Bulgarian nature and the main achievements of BSPB and its partners for their conservation.

The exhibition is for all who are fascinated by the world of birds and want to touch some of the rarest species and natural places in our country. In addition to captivating shots of birds and landscapes, the visitor will witness the results of many years of focused efforts to save endangered species and bring back to life invaluable habitats.

Throughout its 34-year history, BSPB has implemented its conservation strategy thanks to private donors and international programs, with the European Union’s LIFE programme taking the lead. In 2009, the organization launched its first LIFE project, dedicated to the conservation of the Imperial Eagle and the Saker Falcon, which won a number of international awards and was named by the European Commission as one of the five “Best of the Best” LIFE projects in the category “Nature”.

The European Union provides funding for projects to protect the environment, nature and biodiversity through its LIFE programme, established in 1992. It supports the implementation of the Birds and Habitats Directives and the construction of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas. In 2022, the programme celebrates its 30th anniversary.
