The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPS) has started work on a new project under the Horizon Europe programme, together with IBER-BAS and 21 other participants from nine countries. Among them are BTO (British Trust for Ornithology), CSO (Czech Ornithological Society), coordinating the Pan-European Common Bird Monitoring Scheme (PECBMS), as well as representatives of the German concern Bayer. BSPB will work together with BTO and CSO on ornithological surveys in the project. The launch took place in Bonn, Germany, last week.

BioMonitor4CAP is a research project aiming to develop advanced biodiversity monitoring for results-based and effective agricultural policy and transformation. Twenty-three partner organizations from 10 European countries and Peru participate in this project funded through the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme.

Unsustainable agricultural practices are one of the major drivers affecting habitat and species diversity in agricultural landscapes. The ongoing negative impacts of unsustainable agricultural practices emphasize the need for a fully integrated approach between the EU 2030 Biodiversity and Farm to Fork Strategies. More efficient and representative strategies are required to monitor biodiversity and its loss or recuperation through space and time.

The BioMonitor4CAP project will test, validate and develop affordable and reliable biodiversity monitoring systems by combining widely accepted classical biodiversity indicator systems with various recently developed state-of-the-art systems.
