Funding

Besides their moral support for the conservation of Bulgarian nature, our members support us financially too through their annual membership fee.

Hundreds of people also support us financially through donations for individual causes or for the general activities of the organization. We are exceptionally grateful for this support that reflects the public’s trust in the BSPB too.

Regardless of the membership fee and the individual donors the BSPB needs significant additional funds in order to carry out its conservation strategy. For that we rely mostly on project funding by private donors and international programmes, mostly those of the European Union. The BSPB does not receive any direct financing by the Bulgarian state. In the last 10 years the major source of project funding is the LIFE+ Programme of the EU.

We guarantee that we spend the funding that we receive according to the donor’s will in adherence to Bulgarian legislation.

The BSPB is a membership organization registered in the public interest. The annual financial report of the BSPB is audited by an independent auditor that attests its adherence to the National Financial Reporting Standards for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The annual financial report of the BSPB is public; it is announced in the Trade Register and in the Central Register for non-profit legal entities in the public interest at the Registry Agency.

Every year the Management Board of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds presents the annual financial report to the General Assembly of members for approval.

The BSPB adheres to the good practices for good management of civil society organizations.
