Our “Eastern Rhodopes” Nature Conservation Center in the town of Madzharovo once again brought together the finalists of the National Ornithology Olympiad, organized by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB). Eighteen students from Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas, Pazardzhik, Velingrad, Dulovo, General Toshevo, and Chirpan competed, demonstrating their knowledge of birds.
For another consecutive year, first place was awarded to Veronika Pavlova from Sofia. Second place went to Alexander Kirilov from Sofia, and third place to Ralitsa Yordanova from Pazardzhik.
Before the competition, the students and their accompanying adults enjoyed the remarkable nature of the Eastern Rhodopes, and our colleague Dr. Volen Arkumarev introduced them to the vultures that inhabit the region, as well as the BSPB’s efforts to conserve them.

This year, a total of 125 students from across the country participated in the National Ornithology Olympiad. We thank all participants for their enthusiasm, dedication, and love for birds and nature! We encourage them to continue seeking knowledge, discovering the beauty of the wild, and becoming inspired guardians of nature.
