Structure

The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds is the first non-governmental organization for nature conservation in Bulgaria’s most recent history. Officially the BSPB is registered as an association in compliance with the Non-Profit Legal Entities Act.

General Assembly

The supreme organ of the BSPB is its General Assembly – it consists of all the members of the organization. The General Assembly convenes at least once a year. The announcement is published on the web site of the BSPB at least one month prior to the date of convention.

Statute of the BSPB

The General Assembly can change and supplement the Statute of the organization. The goals, the mission and the rights and duties of the management bodies of the BSPB are described in its Statute.

Duties of the BSPB as an organization in the public interest:

to present a report on its activity for the preceding year, including a financial report for the Central Register for non-profit legal entities in the public interest at the Ministry of Justice every year no later than September 30th;

to conduct an independent financial audit of its financial reports under the conditions of the Accountancy Act.

Management Board

The General Assembly chooses the members of the Management Board. The Management Board is the managing body of the organization. The Management Board has 3 to 7 members. The mandate of each member of the Management Board is 4 years starting on the date of their election.

The Management Board members choose a Chairman between themselves.

How does the Management Board work?

The Management Board holds four regular meetings a year. The schedule of the meetings is published on the web site of the BSPB no later than February 10th every year. The Management Board monitors the implementation of the decisions of the General Assembly, it approves the organizational structure and the internal operational regulations of the organization, it chooses and authorizes the Executive Director of the BSPB.
